if you define a class, you don't need to put width and height in your html but define them in your calss attribute

Be careful with that trick, though. Specifically, if you need an image to show up because you need to use its alt attribute.

You can add an ALT TAG as well as a Background-Image.

Simply add your image as a background:url with no-repeat and in the image SRC to be able to add an ALT tag use a transparent pixel image with the width and height of the spec image. its a little trick and it works just fine, nothing ilegal about it

True dat, but it ends up being excess code and graphic use in the end. Why download two images when one would suffice?

There is no ALT TAG -- it's an atrribute

If an image is merely decorative and has nothing to do with the content, filling in the alt attribute isn't necessary - alt="" will suffice for 'fluff' graphics.
