I have put together an image map and wish information about the link to to appear when the user hovers over the link. I have been using the alt tag for this but it dissapears after a while. Is there any way that i can stop this or is there another way of achieving this?

You can't change the behavior of the "alt" attribute display, and in FF it doesn't work the same way anyway.

You might try something like this.. called 'tooltips':

Try this:

<area shape="rect" coords="27,23,121,49" href="file.htm" alt="description" title="description">

try using the title attribute. This usually shows up in FF
