Hello.

I am the webmaster for a HOA and I was asked if it was possible to have a webpage with a link on it to another website but hide the link's website url?

I know about redirecting but the HOA doesn't want our HOA's url redirect, just the link to this outside website.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by hiding it? Who do you want to hide the url from and why hide it? Could you give a little more detail about what the intentions are for hiding the url? Is it just the url you don't want to display or are you trying to keep the link invisible to anyone viewing the page?

Our association has a website and our sports center in our community wants to run their own website. Our directors of the association is worried that when a user to our webiste clicks on the sports center website, which is a different domain and url, they will see the sports center url. They, the directors, want them, the users, to keep on seeing the association website url no matter where they are. The reason our sports center is breaking out into a different domain is that the package software we use for the association does not have all the features they want to use.

I have researched this and as far as I can tell, I can't hid a link url in the user's browser.

Does this make more sense?

Yes it does. I was thinking you meant something completely else at first. I don't think there is a way to do what they want. One thing though is if the two sections look similar enough to each other it probably won't make much difference. People will still know they're on the same site.

Another thing you could do is use a subdomain of the main association site for the sports center.

I'm assuming you want people to click a link and that will take them to a separte page, but still have ur URL at the top.

If thats the case, just make a page with an iframe. height 100%, width 100% src=the sports url.

Thank you both for the replies. I will try the iframe and look into the sub-domain as well.

The iframe should work to hide the url, but it will inhert the usual problems of frames. The sports section probably won't be showing up in a search engine any time soon and visitors will have difficulty bookmarking the pages in the sports section.

I would think as long as you can use the two different software packages the subdomain option will be the better choice.

Frames might incur a few problems, but it's an option.

As previously mentioned, if the website has the same design, the user won't be bothered too much by the URL in the address bar.

A subdomain might be your best option.
