I do not know really where to use <span> tags and where to use <td><tr> tags. Do we use spans instead os tabes or in the tables?

You use a table when you want to display tabular data, such as a scoresheet or something.

You use a SPAN when you want to section off an inline section of text, for example to make a few words in a sentence a different colour.

You can use a SPAN inside a TD, for example when you want to section off an inline section of text that's inside a table cell.
