Hi Forum,

I've just started using layers in DW, and my text boxes are overlapping AND everything is off center:

What am I doing wrong?

If you can click on the links to the left (telepsychiatry, sleep, etc), you can look at additional pages that are not lining up correctly.

Thanks!

Layers literally 'float' over your content. Because of varying screen sizes, the often end up in the wrong places overlapping etc.

If you resize your browser you'll probably see that the design will look different again.

Firstly I don't understand why you are using layers here, when what you are doing can be achieved with your tables. Secondly I would really think about moving to XHTML & CSS, you can then use divs and position them relatively to their containers.

No, they do not. Not unless you set them to float: right or float: left.

"Layers" (bad term !!) are DIVs, and they don't "float" by themselves.

Your REAL problem is making everything position: absolute - not necessary AND it causes plenty of problems.

I suggest you learn how to use floats and the normal document flow to create your layout --- then you won't even need tables

If I should or should not use layers or tables, then how can I simply place text boxes and/or graphics over another graphic? I already have a table set up, and the middle of the table contains a graphic (essentially, the background). I don't want that image to be the background image as it is an integral part of the site.

Is there a way to put text boxes over previously placed images and have it lined up, for the most part?

thanks!

Graphics are easily set as the background on <div>s ("layers").
That leaves the area inside the <div> open to add anything you'd like, basically going 'over' the background graphic.
