ok a couple questions:

first, should i be manipulating the height for a tr or a td?

second, how do i control the td height so that it formats correctly in msn ie? <td height="15"> works in all browsers except ie; ie renders it like it's several hundred pixels in height. does this have something to do with min/max height?

thanks for any advise.

The question I have is: what are you putting in the cell?

If it's an image, then the table cell should resize to the height of the image.

If it's text, no matter what you do your height won't work. People will resize their text and browsers such as FF let them.

elephant I'll ask the same as Adam. What's going into the cell(s)? Is the page online so we can see? Or could you post some more code here?

sure. check out this page: http://00f2856.netsolhost.com/igl/about/report.html

the left margin below the header and menu bar is what i'm having trouble with. and unfortunately, the content will vary in the cell. sometimes text, sometimes images. sometimes an empty cell.

everything formats correctly on safari as well as firefox on both macs and pcs. but the left margin formats incorrectly in ie.

also, should i worry about apple ie 5.2 support? did microsoft officially stop supporting that system?

thanks.

I wouldn't.. and I don't. That browser is dead and buried and MS does NOT support it any longer.

I think the problem is that the breadcrumb navigation on the left and the content below it would need to be in the same table row. What's happening right now is the height of the row is being contolled by the table in the right column. I'm actually surprised that FF isn't displaying it the same way.

The easiest thing to do might be to add a new table inside the cell where the breadcrumb navigation is and give it two rows, one each for the navigation and the content below. I think that will leave you with an empty row in the outer table where the text is located now.

Of course the best way would be to lose the tables completely and go with a css layout, but it will obviosuly be more work now that you've already coded the page.
