Can anybody tell me how can i design a page like yahoo homepage.Basically i want two things:
1.The way yahoo shows their tabbed news,you click on it and tab opens without reloading the page
2.The way they have designed their login pages,like their is a background image then on top of it is a login form.

Hate to say it but Moofasa isn't too far off the mark - Yahoo uses a lot of advanced coding methods and it would be quite a challenge to match its functionality, especially if you're just getting started. I certainly wouldn't try tackling such a challenge!

I think you can mimic some of the things you're describing (dynamic content without changing the page, etc), using JSP, so maybe that should be your first step.

Have you considered using a content management software? I use DotNetNuke which is open-source and has a lot of useful modules right out of the box, not to mention an array of add-ons through 3rd parties. It might not look or act exactly like yahoo's home page, but I'm sure I could make a site that has SOME of the same functions as it, using DNN and maybe some creative coding.

Mooofasa hit the nail on the head the kind of functionality you're talking about isn't going to be a one man project or even 2 or 3 to create something like that in a decent amount of time you're going to have to put a developer team on such a project and it's still going to take weeks if not months to complete. AJAX would be a good start for you to find out how to load certain parts of a page without reloading the entire page though. good luck in your endevor..
