hi
I think i have the right area to post this question ...if not sorry...I have a site that has been working fine for the last 2 years...I don't really have to do updates(pages or changes to pages)more than once a year...I clicked on my site to show to someone and a box now comes up on the front page saying.." click to run active x controls on this page"...when i click either ok or the x to close it, it crashes the site....i never put this function in my site????..how did it get there and how do i remove it...i looked at the code on the front page and can't find any references to it . ay help would be great
Thanks
Mitch

My guess ( since you didn't include a link to the site), is that your site contains flash content and you have used the <embed> tag to put the flash into the page. The embed tag will no longer work as it once did because MS lost it's EOLAS patent fight. Now, any active content put on a page with the <embed> tag will get users exactly what you describe.

You must use another method to put flash and other active content on your page. There is a sticky at the top of this forum that contains several alternate methods.

hi
actually there is no flash in this site( www.nlsstudios.com when it opens click the sportswear button) that's when the "active x" prompt comes up...this is a catalog site, over 130 pages so i didn't want flash,music, button sounds or any type of actions in this site because of the size. I wanted my visitors to be able to page through it as easy as flipping through a paper catalog so i left out all the bells and whistles...i can preview all the pages right in dw and the only one that shows this active x prompt is this first page, all the others don't. the last time I up loaded anything new to this page was 1/01/06 and all i did was change the date. I have been on it live hundreds of times in the past 11 months and i never got this prompt.

Oh, but you DO have active content on the target page for Sportswear:

Quote:
<EMBED NAME='CS1102098125783' SRC='images/home.wav' LOOP=false
AUTOSTART=false MASTERSOUND HIDDEN=true WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0></EMBED>
THAT is your problem, it's active content and IE will give you trouble. Replace that embed with another method and the problem will go away.

You didn't get this error message before because this behavior was pushed out thru Windows Update.. you got it whether you wanted it or not !
