Another simple question! I want to enable the users of my website to download a word document. I had thought all I had to do was create a link to the document, as you would with a PDF, and it would download as a word document.

It doesn't seem to work. Am I doing it right?

For sure you can zip it using wizip or windows xp. Then just link to the zip file. Some servers do not allow anything but zip and pdf to be downloadable for security reasons.

If you link to a MS-type file, like Word or Excel, and you're using IE, IE will open that document inside the browser IF you have the application installed. The only way to stop this behavior is to set it up as an ftp link or, as above, zip it up first.
