Hi,
I have been thinking that it might be a good idea to have a "sister" site of WT for open scripts.
where users can post there scripts get feed back on ther modifications etc, and also users being able to request scripts. and that sort of thing, i would be happy to provide webspace which isnt going to anyuse on my crappy site. i have spoken to a couple of other users who agree it would be a good idea but dont have any time to help me make it happen. i am only just getting to grips with php and don't see myself getting to the ablity of coding the type of site i am thinking of by myself.

i would like to know what you think about this idea and if anyone can help me make it happen!

I think its been done before and would be hard to get going

it would take massive amounts of code to get something like this started and there are already several sites out there like what you're describing..... www.sourceforge.net is one www.hotscripts.com is another and last but not least www.freshmeat.net these are just a few of the hundreds out there but they are the ones I frequent........ there is not an area there to post your code for suggestions but the php area of this forum would be good for that..

god i hate this as soon as one person says great idea go for it some one else says it pointless... and visa versa

didn't mean to offend you...... was just pointing out it's going to be ALOT of work and you have to offer something nobody else does........ just a script repository isn't going to be enough......

Sounds like you should use a site like sourceforge.net if you're doing what I think.
Personally I always think opensource software is a good idea however you need to make sure you do things that haven't been done to death such as forum software.

i wasn't offended it's just im having mixed feed back and i would just prefer it if either everyone said yes or no. so i know if i should forget it or go ahead. i think it will probally be the first... for now at least.

I need someone else who has more knowledge with php if i was to do it now as i do not have the knowledge to take on asucha large project.

In 18months i will be 16 just left school and (hopefully) be able to write more than basic php!

You're at a great age to start learning PHP. I first started doing HTML at the age of 9. Now, I'm ahead of everyone in my class including the seniors at my college, and I just only finished my first year.

If you've ever done programming before with a C-like language, PHP is pretty easy to learn. In fact, PHP is pretty easy to learn anyways with its fairly simple syntax. Over the next couple of months, I'm going to be trying to develop a blog/script library/tutorial site and I'd like to create a step-by-step tutorial for people with no PHP knowledge, and have them leaving with a proficient knowledge of it. We'll see. I'll post a link whenever I finish it.
