I havve designed a website with Dreamweaver 8 which is currently on my hardisk. MNy host has provided me with this info:

Ftpaddress
User Name
Password :
Port

I entered this info in the "Manage Sites" window under "Config Server"

Is this all I need to do before publishing?

With all that usernames, login and bla-bla ....configure Your FTP application.

It's better solution than DW's built-in FTP.

OK, I'll download a free ftp and try to upload my site.

I uploaded everything using cuteFTP.

I typed in the sites URL and I get this message:

Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.

What am I doing wrong?

what is the name of your main page ?? The defaults usually must be index.htm(l) or default.htm(l). If you're using any other name, it's not going to work unless your host will add a custom name to their server.

It's Index.html. Should I rename it to default.html instead?

Check in Manage Sites menu.

Check basic and advanced tab.

Try this:

1. When You work with DW, make folder for Your site where You'll store files.
2. Name Your site (for example: My site)
3. Leave blank HTTP address of Your site
4. No server technology
5. Edit local copies on my machine must be checked
6. Point where on your computer do You wanna store your files
7. How do You connect to your remote server - NONE

DONE!

In Cute FTP write host address, username and password and click Connect.

On left side there are files on Your computer (Your site), on right side of CuteFTP is folders and files on server.

Select what You want to transfer and click upload. After uploading click refresh button. VOILA!

it will probably need to be index.html

*nix servers are case sensitive so Index is not the same as index

I found s free ftp which is better than the paid cute ftp. This free ftp shows you what it is doing during upload it's Filezilla.


I tried changing index.html to default.html but still get
"Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed."

I can see the site when I type in the url and "/default.html"

Problem solved:


I used a format and reinstall philosophy; I deleted all the files on the server then re-uploaded everything.
