I know if you use action="mailto"

you can have the data from the form emailed some where. The problem is when I do this and then try it out, outlook opens up like when you click on a email link. I want the form to automaticly be sent to my email address. It makes no sense for them to fill out a form and then have to send the email.

Thanks
Ben

Hey Ben - You would have to require a server-side script to handle a function like that (PHP or ASP for example). You would have your regular form, but your action would point to a processing page that sends the email using smtp from the web server.

Ben, here's a page I found on with a pretty simple script set up to use php to mail you the contents of a form.

http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/ia...n20060412.php3

I would use the $_POST array instead of $_REQUEST as in the example and I would add some more code to clean the data before emailing it, but this should get you set up.

If it doesn't make sense then ask again and I'm sure we can offer more help.

There is also a good tutorial at http://www.freewebmasterhelp.com/tutorials/php/5
as well as various other php tutorials. If you go through the 7 step tutorial i found it gave a great foundation for php in general including emailing forms.

Clayton I came across that tutorial too and it looked good. I went for the simpler one, but I agree the one you linked to looks worth the time to read.
