The answer is still no though.

One argument is that tableless pages load faster, but unless you've got a HUGE page or an immensely complex set of tables, it's not going to make much difference. Another argument was that you can position content first in your page, but a recent thread in the SEO forum here referred to an article that refuted this theory.

Replacing tabled layouts with CSS might be good for other reasons, but not SEO.

The less code, same content (tableless), means the less strain on your server when crawlers are crawling.

It really does not make any difference if you're using tables or tableless for SEO though. However reading this thread, I thought tables had more benefits by how strongly some people were on this, is this true that tables are better, or should I keep to my understanding it makes no difference.

However, as much of us like pleasing SEO, never forget the most important thing for your site, the people.

Cheers,

MC

SEO = search engine optimization

I have to disagree with the article. There are many many reasons to use css, but sadly I don't think seo is one of them. You can optimize a table based site just as well as you can a css driven site.

My understanding is that search engines are stripping the code away before determining where to rank a page and if they are it really doesn't matter much what that code is or was.

Still css does create lighter code, which will benefit both you and your site visitors. It will be easier for you to maintain and will load quicker for your visitors.

Really bad code can trip up search engines when they spider your site, but you can write bad code equally with tables or css.

In the end though it makes no difference to me how a search engine views css and tables. There are so many advantages to using css that even if I saw concrete proof that search engines preferred tables I would still use css.
