Ok so I am ever hopeful

I have a template ( all 200 hundred pages) that I want to convert from perfect w3 valid HTMl 4.01 Transitional to XHTML 1.0 Strict for obvious reasons ( that is if you are like me and listen to these w3 buggers).

Anyone know an easy way - an auto tool?

Anyone really REALLY ambitious planning to start building some software - or does it exist already?

Much Graz,

Seb.

As far as I know, I haven't come across anything while browsing the depths of the internet. Though I must say myself, I won't listen to them W3 people until it becomes a goverment signed law. :-)

You say you have a template, then say all 200 pages. Do you mean that you have 200 pages that are separate html pages with no dynamic aspects to them at all (i.e. included headers, footers or navigation)?

If that is the case then your best bet would be to submit each page to the W3 validator and work on each one in your free time. It will be a lot of work but probably worth it in the near future.

The government will never enact a law stating such however browser developers will eventually stop supporting aging standards and technology as a measure to control costs. Better to be ahead of the curve than wait to the last minute.

According to the tools, I have 157 indexed pages, all static html files, all based on the same template. I use Dreamweaver, which puts comments around the parts of the template I'm "allowed" to edit, then when I make a change to the template file itself, it makes corresponding changes to all of the html files in my site, keeping my changes to the editable regions, but updating the template parts.

I'd recommend something like that. Essentially it's a big search and replace, although across many lines.

I would check out html-kit, there is a feature called html tidy, that can be used for each individual page or the whole site.

Download a copy of HTML Tidy. You can set it up to modify the doctype and "correct" the tags XHTML. However, there is more to Strict than just closing tags, it requires separation of content from presentation and I don't know of any program that will do THAT for you automatically.

Thanks all! I guess HTML Tidy is my best bet - even if it just does the basics. Thanks.
