Can I have special characters in URL names?

I have recently created some new pages for a website which contains special Danish and German characters æ, ø and å.

The links to these pages work fine when I test offline but after I have uploaded the new pages and click the link it says the page cannot be found...???

Is this because I cannot use these special characters in the url name?

Does it have something to do with the server?

Or something else.......

Does anybody out there know why my pages cannot be found??

The website is:
http://www.hygeiabeauty.com/index_dk.html

Here are some examples of pages that cannot be found:
http://www.hygeiabeauty.com/ansigtsløftning.html
http://www.hygeiabeauty.com/brystforstørrelse.html

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Thank you RanaD. Very useful article. The reason i want to include special danish/german characters is because i think it will give me a better chance of achieving higher ranking for these keywords if the url has the exact same name as the keyword including the special danish/german characters.

Do you know if i change the url name according to the URL encoding converter mentioned in the article will the search engine recognize the url name as the correct name?
