Image map not viewing properly...

Any explanation as to why http://fulcrumpoetry.org would not display properly? A user, using IE 6.0, sees everything on the page except the topmost black-and-white menu bar, which is an image map. I posted a page at http://fulcrumpoetry.org/test.html which is JUST the menu bar, and she is having the same problem. I know its interoperable and compliant; so what's going on?

Cheers,

Zak

I use FF 2.0 and I see NO IMAGE at all at the top.. and this is the reason:

Quote:
<div align="center"><img src="file://///casfs1.bu.edu/Core%20Curriculum/Departmental%20Workgroups/Zak/personal/FULCRUM/web/img/banner.jpg"

That path just isn't going to work. I'm sure it looks fine when YOU look at it
but won't appear to anyone else.

It's correct on your test page though.

Thanks for your feedback so far.

So, here's the problem.
http://fulcrumpoetry.org/test/index.html views properly in one browser, but in another, there's actually a line that is absent in the source: line seven, <img src="banner.gif">. The source file, index.html, is the same, of course. The result is that both images -- banner.gif, and footer.jpg -- load correctly on one computer, and only the footer graphic loads on the other.

Why should the page source load differently from the same source file?

Any ideas?

Take out the spaces between the 2 images:

<img src="index_files/banner.gif" width="799" height="154"><img src="index_files/footer.jpg" width="799" height="58">

By the way, you should ALWAYS include a width and height for images.

Does http://www.fulcrumpoetry.org/test/ display both images now?

Why, oh why, would the first image not display properly for some visitors, do you think?

page not found on the test page.

on the live page, the red text in the center box does not display in FF 2.0.. only the part that is NOT part of your script is showing up.

What browser are these people using that are not seeing both images ?

Hmm, I shall have to reconfigure the tex script to work in FF.

The user having trouble was using IE 6.0. She would see everything on the page except banner.gif, the top menu bar. It wouldn't show as banner.jpg either... but when I changed the name to header.gif/header.jpg, everything was fine! Some sort of security problem?

Possibly. I had no trouble seeing both images on IE 6.0. Could be a setting she has in IE or some other software, such as anti-virus - getting in the way.
