Using an image as a tracker?

Hello all,

I am wondering if there is a way, without putting anything other than an image (gif, jpg, bmp) on the other server, if there is a way to log the I.P. address, date and time the image was viewed?

I would like to use the image as a tracker of sorts, and have it on my server, but link directly to it from another server, then just save the mentioned data and view it.

Thanks for any help!

Yep, your web stats will do that automatically for you.

But I'm not sure how accurate it will be on repeat visitors considering the browser likes to cache images.

cached or not, the image will be always be requested from the server and that will be logged.

The UA will then download the image (or not) depending on the HTTP response given.

Thanks for the replies. =)

I guess my real question is; HOW do I isolate and view just the info for that image?

What software do I use? etc. I do have webalizer on my server, but I haven't seen any stats on the info I'm looking to view for specific images.

Do you have access to your raw server logs?
