Can I get some ideas as what I should quote this site at?

First of all, I want this quote to be relative somewhat to what I'm paid at work. Right now I make $7.50 an hour doing design for vinyl signs and t-shirts. I've made this website for him now, but I'm doing it outside my hourly wage because it was done at home, on my own time, and I haven't kept strict track of my hours. I've never made a website for profit before, so I'm not sure what to quote him at. If you would, please take a quick look at the website and tell me what you would probably quote this for. The website is not done, but its a site with 6 links in the header, with one of those links going to another 4 pages, so 10 total pages. Its built on HTML and CSS with some light javascript. Site is not finished yet, but this page gives a fair representation of the site:

http://differentfactor.com/otherneat...nprinting.html

So far I probably have about 15 hours buried in this, but much of it is because I haven't done any web work for nearly 2 years, and so this has been a re-learning experience for me.

Anyway, shoot me some quotes for a 10 page site like that to give me some ideas, thanks!

Look at it this way: 15 hours x $7.50 an hour = $112.50. Charge him that, and you both win by your math. He's getting a steal and you're getting full pop for your efforts.

Since the time you've already invested will contribute to the following 9 pages I'd go with this (BTW, your rate should be based on the work, not your current wage).
10 pages x 4 hours/page x 20/hr = $800

Be sure to mention that changes afterward will have separate billing. Try to maintain a 4hr min for any further work.

This is more than generous on your part but, considering you stated its your first project, taking less is ok.

When looking at that salary, keep in mind, its salary. When contracting it is normal to charge double the salary rate. (ie.. $50K/yr salary~=$25/hr -> contract at $50/hr for sim work)

The $112 is close but seems a little low for me, i'm kinda pondering about $150 or so for it, maybe $200. $800 on the other side is way high for my situation anyway.

Be careful not to sell yourself short. If you don't value your work, nobody else will. I understand that being new at it leaves your perceptions skewed (thats why I sent the link to show the market rate).
Personally, I wouldn't do it for less than $2K but, I'm in a different situation. I am willing to bet that in a few years you will want to kick yourself for working too cheaply (I know I want to kick my past self for the same ).

That's where I disagree with you, Paul. The kid's gotta get his foot in the door first if he wants to be successful, and sometimes that means taking less than what something is worth to get to that point.

Take the $150 then. I'd still say that's a good deal for everyone. If he were to go to a firm to get that built, he'd be looking to pay at least $1000. If he were to hire someone else, probably $500-$600 minimum.

But yeah, it's your starting point. Take a short-term hit in order to make something work, then once you've proved yourself go after the bling blaow.

Take $200, including the work you still have to do. You could get double that as a relative beginner, but you had to relearn some skills, so part of what you get out of this job is a mini-education. Along with a portfolio piece.

I think im going to shoot $200. I just know my boss isnt super crazy about a website, and would freak if I went over that, thats whats holding me back at quoting high.

And this is also portfolio work, which I only have like 2 other sites for my portfolio at the current...one i did for myself and started a new one, and one that i did for someone else for free and they never claimed it >_<
