I would have to agree, your best bet is to read some tutorials on html and CSS.
For being able to display content without reloading the entire page is possible in a few ways, but i think at this point is way to complicated for a 'newbie'.
If you are serious about getting this website done, its easier to know how the basic things work. Once you get used to simple html and CSS you might find it easier to use a simple text editor instead of something like frontpage.
