How do i make my site home page to load faster, because according to Alexa my site is very slow to load. 88% of sites are faster than my site. I’m surprise that my site is very slow because i’m not using frame. Please i need someone more advanced to help me out. I’m using Frontpage 2003. Thanks.

I check my stuff with http://www.websiteoptimization.com/ to see what's taking so long too load.

BTW: I'm not affiliated with that site except that I occasionally use it.

No, he was simply stating that he has no personal ties/financial or other interests in the mentioned website.

Without seeing your website, it would be hard to guess what is causing your slow speed.

1) It could be your server - maybe your server has a poor response time, and if that's the case; there's not a lot you can do about it.

2) Resource heavy scripts - if you've too many things going on dynamically when a person visits your home page, this might have something to do with a poor response time.

3) Images / audio / video files - if you're using large images/ streaming audio or video on your main page, this will undoubtedly cause your page to load slower for some users.

These are just ideas - one might have a better idea if they knew what your website was.

That site tells me how big each file is and how long it takes to load. This was really helpful when I was working with Ajax and the site was taking a long time to load for a dialup connection. The report indicated that I had some big graphics, excessive JS includes, and a large prototype.js script (which I couldn't get rid of). I just found that all helpful. I could have probably figured it out on my own, but this was quicker.

Speed of your website necessarily does not depend on the HTML page etc.

Alexa and other such services, use ping command to check how fast did the response come.
Secondly they use HTTP 200 error code to check when the page download was completed.

Both these methods do not prove that there is something wrong with your html code.

From a positive outlook, the reasons can be numerous...

1. Your web host was temporarily experiencing heavy traffic.
2. Alexa's pinging server is located very FAR from your hosting datacanter.
3. Your website page contains some large image or photo that takes too much time to load.
4. Your webpage is dependent on thrid party websites for data such as RSS feeds which were slow.
5. Alexa's own servers might be experiencing heavy traffic while they were tracking your website.

Essentially, unless your visitors or you yourself feel that the website is very slow, these tools are mostly inaccurate.

Zitku, I think you meant "necessarily does not depend" to be "does not necessarily depend" as your points 3-5 are related to the HTML (including the HTML to include external JS, images, etc)

Well there are many reasons why:

• Is your site on a server which has a slow upload speed?
• Make your graphics smaller.
• Does your page have lots of database scripts?

Try to use other service to measure speed

Also optimize you code:
- do not use automatic html-creating programs there is a lot of odd code
- every database request slows your page down - database is always a bottleneck. use caching if possible.
- optimize images for web (use photoshop's "save for web")
- make sure your website size is about 120-150 kb with images, that is an average size of websites

You need to make the homepage file alot smaller. your is 41k it needs to be less to 20k to load faster. Might want to break up web page

Usually more of images make the site load slower. Use smaller size images and try if its still the same check out for others like server probem overloading indexpage withtoo much scripts which take som o to be executed..
