hello,

I'm wanting to build a form in Dreamweaver... that part I know how to do but the getting it to work is another story. Are there any tutorials around on this or could someone point me in the right direction for setting up the back end part of a form and getting it to work.

What exactly are you trying to DO with the form ? If you are doing any sort of processing, you're going to need some form of server-side scripting, such as PHP or ASP.

If you are simply trying to build a form for visitors to complete, then you receive an email when they click the "send" button, check with your hosting company and find out if they provide some common CGI scripts (such as formail.pl - written in perl), or if they allow you to run your own cgi scripts, in which case you can have a form script installed for you.

yep! i use a common CGI script in my hosting (3ix) i was able to auto-install it from the cPanel and got it to work by reading some tutorials. ask your webhosting if they have something similar. this is what i got. it even has a thank you page, just what i was looking for, you can add *** many variables as you want. http://www.elektronika.com.mx/Contacto.htm

you have automated tools (aka wizzy wizards) you can use with Dreamweaver that will write all the php for you. It's still not strait forward but there are really good tutorials that come with dreamweaver (considering i'm using dreamweaver 8).
The only bit not covered in the Dreamweaver tutorial is how to build the database and database table on your server but if your use PHPmyadmin this is quite simple.

There are several server-side scripting languages such as PHP, CGI, and ASP that can do backend things. For more advanced procedures you will need the use of databases. I would suggest learning PHP with MySQL, here are some great tutorials:

PHP Syntax Tutorials

PHP & MySQL Tutorials
More PHP & MySQL Tutorials
Ever More PHP & MySQL

Those are all excellent resources, that I often reread to freshen up when I haven't been coding for a while.
