The first thing I would suggest to you is that when you do CSS for your divs to included classes, put all your styles for that div into the CSS. Don't split it up like you have for the header.

IE 6 is known to have issues with bugs caused by use of CSS. I don't know why but it does. IE 6, I believe is Microsoft's worst as far as coding bugs.

I use Firefox and I see how you talk about it being too high. I would suggest adding to your header class in your css some margin-top styling. It will adjust it down. In my own site, I use margin-top: 2em.

It looks like a different color in ie, ha. Weird. I know this isn't the site review but when I saw this I thought you were a total nub but then I looked back at your (Dan's Hosting) and I thought it looked pretty good. You could create a separate css for ie and ff then make it look the same in both.

Try validating your code. Many of the Cross browser weirdness comes from, in valid code. Not having a doctype. Ie will render in quarks mode with out a doctype. And bad use of CSS. Use CSS with care. Also check out http://w3schools.com and see what is cross browser compatible and what isn't. If you design for Fire fox, Ie7 isn't too far off. Ie6 is a different story. You should deffinatlly take into consideration that may users are still using IE6. So make sure that your design works for it as well.
