You mixes 2 different things....

HTML is a descriptive language to put elements in form on a display.
ASP is a programming language, used to manipulate datas, which can generate HTML.

You use ASP, or jsp, coldfusion, php WITH html to display datas coming from diverses sources (database, files, other sites, xml etc....)

The above post is correct. ASP is a server-side scripting language while HTML is only a mark-up language.

Yes it all depends on what you are looking to do. Are you just wanting to put a site online with family pix and some text then you should be ok with HTML but if you are looking for something more advanced you might want to look at ASP and maybe also have a look at php..
