A site im making for someone allows him to upload his own audio tracks onto it.

At the moment the links are linked directly to the files, so that they play in the browser [well, they do in mine anyway, they might open in media player in some people's]

But i would prefer to include them directly into the page itself.

is it best to do this with the object tag? also, i have a problem when clicking a track in IE6, it seems to take AGES for it to open!

any help would be great!

Ok, it probally takes ages to download because u are downloading the song before it can play...

You can do this in differant ways,
a simple (out dated and crappy way) is <bgsound> tag.

also like u said u can use object tag and insert it via that so it will play using a plugin like Wmplayer. or quickplayer. u can also use Flash, i have seen people use this method which seems to be the best, but i have no clue with flash so sorry i cant help more.

if u do choose to take the flash route i would suggest posting in the flash forum here.

hope that helps

I'd definitely go with Dans suggested approach of using Flash.
With Flash its easy to design it so the player interface appears to be part of you website. Personally I hate audio / music in websites and I like a pause button to be located somewhere. Cheers.

Ahhhh i see! Thanks, I think I'll get to work on using that.

At the moment all I can use flash for is just to create basic animations. Would creating a flash music player require knowledge of XML [which I'm starting to learn soon]?

Also about the IE problem, it seems to take ages to open the track, but then it just starts streaming it through the quicktime plugin.

Chris here, it would be really hard to do this in flash, but I can teach. Ask Dan to ask me if you want to know and I'll find out from someone who does know. I need to know this anyway so it wont be a waste of time.

(Chris = my mate in case u were wondering)
