im planning to use some direct IM links on my page.

Ill show a couple of example so u no what i mean.
Add me to their messenger link:

a href="msnim:add?contact=dansgalaxy@hotmail.co.uk">Add me on MSN </a>

Add me to their messenger for Yahoo

<a href="ymsgr:addfriend?dansgalaxy@hotmail.co.uk">Add me on Yahoo Messenger</a>

when i just did a page, i noticed that the msn worked but th yahoo didnt, because idony have yahoo messenge installed.

So how would i have a lil javsscript pop up come up and saying You dont have yahoo/msn messenger installed.
if they dont haveit?

because if they dont it goes to page cannot be displayed...

so i basically want to e this.

If they don't have MSN/Yahoo installed, most people with common sense would know that clicking on those links would do nothing.

Why not just have a text notation on your site, versus javascript? "If you do not have either of those programs installed, the links will not work."

I know and i will have that.

I do not know about the javascript, but since it is for "stupid people"...
How about a redirect to an installation page? It would encourage people to install it.

right ok. so heres what im thinking

somehow detect if they have the program (somehow test if a link which has the protical of msnim returns true and it gets a page or false it returns a cant be found thing.)

then do a if else on the link? so soemthing like

ok... so anyideas on how to detect if they have it?...
is there a way to "test" the protacal (without any user display...).
