I hope this is the right section, i didnt know where else to put it. I have a couple questions on what making a certain kind of website requires. I am intermediate at html, and I know a little CSS and javascript.

1First off, what would it take, knowledge-wise, to make a site where you can register an account, and sign in and out. 2Would I need a server or something to do this? Or is a domain ok?

3Then what about a virtual avatar or pet site like: (neopets.com subetaxcom marapets.com gaiaonline.com) Where you can collect items, interact, and whatnot. 4Would I need a server or something to do this?

Don't say I cant do this, cause im a stoopid n00b. I'm just wondering for the possible future.

2. Yes, you'd have to purchase web hosting from somewhere, I'm trying to get rid of some hosting for a year for around $70 if you're interested. Personally I use hostgator.com works great.

3. Yes, you'd need a webserver (webhosing) to do this. You'd also need a lot of experience with websites and coding.

If you're serious about doing any website like this, you might want to hire a freelancer to do the coding for you.

The sites that you are referring too, requires alot more than just html and css. Depending on your preference, there are a few popular web programming language you need to master. You start with php since IMO it’s the easiest to learn and work your way up from there.

Database is your next priority. Nothing is impossible as long as you are eager to learn you will get there eventually



If you just figuring things out, you can always try a cheaper host. Not saying hostgator is bad since I too use them but they a little expensive if you just exploring. Though cheap and reliable are quite rare.
