I have gaps in between my nav bars. This only happens in IE Can someone take a look.

Where did you get that menu ?
It's only happening where you have the sub menus.

I was just hoping I could replace the the text with images. Do you think this could still work for me?

You should put the images in as backgrounds on the <a> tags and then add REAL text for the link, that should stop the problem with the script re-sizing because the image takes up space.

How do I put the images in as backgrounds on the <a> tags? I have only used backgrounds on <body> tags.

I'm pretty sure its not like this?

No, use CSS

menu a{
background: #fff url(images/image.jpg);
}

menu a:hover{
background: #fff url(images/image2.jpg);
}
