I'm a web designer and would like to create a content management system (CMS) website for my clients. I want them to be able to make their own changes after I created, using their web browser. Are there programs I can purchase, and if so, any recommendations? Or do I have go through a programmer?

Since the website has been created by you I'm pretty sure your gonna have to go through a programmer to create a CMS specific to your site. Of course if you know how to use a scripting language and a database and can create websites then there is no reason why you couldn't do it yourself.

all depends what they are going to change;

Content? you probably need a programmer to create the backend system.

Layout? you probably need a programmer to create a templating system.

Colours, fonts etc? you probably need a programmer to create a style editing system.

What about the database this CMS is going to require?

Or are you simply going to design a template for an existing CMS?
