Why oh why do people charge for messiness like that? I finally finished redoing my friend's site to use no tables, no nested tbody inside a block quote in a td. Now it's just a bunch of divs and spans. Not a great site, and it looks basically the same except for some changes to the layout my friend wanted.

Sorry, I'm just ranting.

But what do you prefer?

<table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">

or

<div class="infobox">

lol

Although I do think that CSS is much, much better then tables, it's really not that much different. All you do is put in the stylesheet...

I would prefer neater HTML, though, because CSS is easier to organize.

Yeah, you take the same properties and settings and move them to a stylesheet, but then you only use them once ( instead of border="0" ) on every table tag in every document. So it's easier to maintain, but it's also cached by the browser so it's only downloaded once to take load off the server.

Great point, Dan. Tables and css aren't mutually exclusive.

Not to mention, it's easier for designers' clients to understand where they can and can't edit.
