Sorry, I'm just in ranting mode. Slow day at work, hurry up and wait, so I've been trying to gain some knowledge.
I've been Googling all sorts of things, and just checking out the quality of the markup for the first handful of results. I see lots of tables, and sometimes even crazier markup than I fixed for a friend. I swear, it's like there was a coder with tourettes syndrome throwing tags together at random.
Anyway, I know people still use tables 'cause if it ain't broke, don' fix it. And I've seen some clever use of colspan back in the day. But rowspan just seems like a hack of a hack. Super hard to maintain or change or work with, makes tables unpredictable, is pretty rare (for good reason!) and worst of all, annoys me.
Maybe they're not stupid. I mean, most of my traffic comes from people here clicking my "latest blog post" and from other bloggers. I have to search for the titles of my posts to come up on the first page, and probably the last five of them haven't even been indexed. Still, at least I know to only use tables when I want to make something look like a spreadsheet on the page.
