Content is the most important thing. Its one thing to get someone to come to your site and another thing to get that person to come back. Spend time promoting but spend more time improving your site.

From experience, I can say with 120 % certainty that your site isn't like mine, so my experience doesn't carry over to your site.

It depends how you define "best." You can buy quality traffic for lots of money, for example. But some people prefer cheaper methods.

Well a lot of people use social media as there marketing tool. Truly, social media had gone to the top in a lot of aspects and one of this is the use of social media in marketing. Seeing a lot of people had been connected by this sites will assure you that you can drive massive traffic to your site as long as you doing right.

Ensure that your site is optimized(title tage, meta tags )and you have fresh, unique and informative content.Then start establishing your site as an authority one by participating in social bookmarking and social media sites, apart from give insightful comments on blogs and forums.Create your brand with good articles on web 2.0 sites and wikipedia...Be patient and focus on all strategies in bits and you will get awesome result.

Based on experience so far hands down it's been article marketing.

I don't know if it's because it's the most effective or because that's what I've been doing the longest. I have over 300 article churning out traffic for me 24/7 ---365

Next is Forums

And oddly enough Press releases.
