I use some offline marketing like a big sticker on my car, some flyers that i leave at public places like the Mc donalds. Mouth to mouth. Some local news papers where i advertise.
What do you use for your offline promotion?

Ok, Offline Marketing or better known as (LSM) Local Store Marketing for Us includes, but is not limited to the following:

1.) Local advertising efforts - Local newspapers, school bulletin advertising, local publications, local communities, etc.
2.) Sales Promotions - Monthly sales promotions & events plus the advertising & sales materials that support them.
3.) Direct Marketing - Distribution of door hangers, flyer's, business cards, direct mail, post cards, etc.
4.) Support or sponsorship of local community & charity programs or events.

Most forms of offline marketing have show to be too expensive to me. The printing costs for flyers, business cards, etc. exceeds the price for equally effective internet marketing. You can buy PPC advertising for less than $0.10 a visitor in some cases (i.e. non-competitive keywords), but a business card will probably cost just as much and may not even get you a visitor.

Some low cost ways to promote:

Leave cards or simple ad slicks with the following:

Your bank manager or account rep. They deal with a lot of people setting up new accounts for business, maybe they will pass it on.

Local small printers - new businesses always need cards and more

Local lawyers specializing in Corporate Law - they are helping people form corporations. You can even offer to give them a break on their design costs for some referrals.

Sign companies - new businesses need signs

Just a few to kick it off...

Scott you can probably get business cards for about half as much as that $0.10 click. And a click doesn't equal a sale it's just a click.

Word of mouth is probably still the strongest form of marketing. I can bid on keywords all I want or optimize my site as much as I can, but I have a better chance of landing a new client based on the recommendation of one of my existing clients. In some cases they might be presold before they ever contact me.

Dave I like all your suggestions. My best form of offline marketing is customer services. I do everything I can to treat my good clients well. Sometimes that might mean losing a little money on a project, but if it means my clients remain happy then I keep my clients and also get recommendations for new clients.

Yeah, t-shirts are cool. You could also consider other promotional items like mugs, umbrellas, pens... give aways depend on the type of business you have.

You could also host an event where some of the proceeds go to charity and invite a lot of press.

Distribute press releases to your local mags and newspapers.

Good luck!

And I didn't even have to pay Dave to say that. See what being good to people can do.
