A couple of weeks ago I started a forum with the main topic being about Hybrid cars and to try to increase members/posts I decided to create a contest. The contest is basically for a Gmail invite or account (depending on if I still invites left at the end of the contest). Anyone have any ideas on how I can go about promoting this contest? I think if I post it on many different forums I'll likely get banned or flamed for it.

Contest are good ideas to bring in members, but alot of times people look down on you for doing that. You best bet is to just keep posting up as much as you can, and keep spreading the word, use forums like this with signatures to put in your URl's and Anchor text, then people who are interested will be able to have visibe links.

I would just put a tagline in your signature in the forums you already post in...that should help.

Also, try putting up an announcement or something similiar at your forum so anyone who does visit will know about it.
