Need help on traffic!

OK so I have tweaked the site, made the layout better, and am getting ready to combine a few sections to lessen the amount of nav buttons.
Site has been up and running for about 3 weeks now, and I am only seeing dribs and drabs of traffic.
I have posted about5 articles to around 5 different article sites.
have a few recip links
submitted to directories but with little success so far, guess they take time with all the sites going up.
submitted to all the big search engines, manually, smaller ones automated
have posted in relevant forums, made the new guy mistake who doesnt know about spam in 2 of them, but have not repeated in others. sorry I did it here as it was my 2nd forum and didnt know all the rules.
I have about 40 pages of content
so am I seeing no traffic because I am impatient and this is normal, or is there something I am forgetting to do? really could use a hand here, have been sifting thru a million tip sites, but mostly just selling SEO tools there.
Yahoo/altvista/all the web shows me at around 140 links MSN shows 8 and Google big surprise 0!
< actually, a link in your signature is where it should be >

yeah that article wasn't to bad I guess. I say if you want traffic just do the forum sig link and remain active. Don't just spam the forums add insightful posts. If people are interested in your posts they will likely follow your signature link. If you don't have a product or service it will be hard to keep the traffic coming back. Getting it there is only the first part keeping it there is another ball game. So if you can try and add a product or service of some sort. With one of m,y sites I started pre modding phpbb 3.0 and this has kept me in the 1 million range. I know this isn't much traffic but it still helps and it's better than nothing. Don't give up on the site, always keep it updated to show thew users that you care and want them to return. there's nothing worse then visiting a site again to only find the same information all the time. Unless of course it's a product or service you wanted in the first place.

PPC ads are the only way I've found to get quick traffic. Of course, they are very expensive, so you need to have your traffic monetized well to afford it.

You have done everything correct so far and now you need to wait for few more months to get some traffic. But whether it will ultimately lead to a huge traffic load or not that will depend entirely on the merit of your websites.
For getting some instant traffic, it is a nice idea to take part in forums or ask people to review your site in different forums.
OK?

thank you all so much, I thought as much, but you know how it is when you slave over something, you want to see results, will just keep on going the way I am and wait, I think my site is of solid value, good content etc so it should fare well eventually.
Again Thank you

Look at it this way, inform team: your site is new. From the looks of it, you're fairly new to web design. If your site were an offline business, every business advisor in the world would tell you that you shouldn't expect immediate results. You'll make mistakes, you'll piss people off, you'll attract a few people, they'll buy into your message, they'll tell a few more, and over the months and years your business and traffic will grow...assuming you do it right.
Now that I've said that, let's look at your question about backlinks. Are you using the pointless link domain.com) style of query? Google never reveals the full picture to the public, since that would mean that not only you have access to your information, but any competitors to your site do too (yes, I know your site's all about information, but under business circumstances this isn't the case.)
If you want a better idea of what inbound links Google has for you, sign up for Google Webmaster Tools and verify your site (full instructions will be provided there.) This will show you inbound links that are both followed and nofollowed, all in one bunch. But at least you'll have a better idea.
Next on the agenda: your link exchanges. Lose 'em. If you don't get caught with your pants down that way, you will. Big G in particular thinks badly of them, and they generally won't help you get more traffic. Out with them. Out, I say!
Next: your site itself has some weird coding issues and goofy things going on with it. Take this guy, for example:
I don't even know what that is, but it keeps popping up on every page at least 20-30 times. This is likely a side effect of your SiteBuilder thing. If it's like most "CMSes", you'll have issues with it...big issues. The larger your site grows, the bigger these issues tend to become. Your design and layout in general could use some work (in particular, the use of Times New Roman...my GOD I hate that font!) and code will be a big issue for you.
Finally, lose things like the counters, the Alexa ranks, etc. The only person who needs to know how your site is doing is you, and if your host is half-decent they would have supplied you with stats to see for yourself.
In other words, the reasons that you're not seeing the traffic you think you should are because you have some issues that are draining the traffic, and because your site's too new.

Can we get the URL for any one of them? It's really hard to give anything but the most generic advice without.
And you're more than welcome to put a link in your signature. Even I did that. As long as you post helpful messages and good questions, there's no one who'll mind, and some people might click the link to see what yo're about.

ok thanks again for the information, I have heard that the @ mark is showing up in firefox, but hell if I know where that is coming from. Yeah I have all the google stuff webmaster tools etc, as it seems the links are there, but not counted by google, or something, plan i to keep on working on the set up and promotion til dec where I am going to unplug and leave it to my business partner to monitor while I head to Australia and Bali for a few months R&R, that should give it tim to grow, with out me checking every 3 hours...hehe
Yes I will put the link in my signature once I post this, should change them all automatically right?

If you are impatient and need immediate results, I suggest you ADVERTISE.
A simple equation for an effective marketing campaign : (I posted this in another thread and might help you out)
Good content (info, service or product) + SEO + PPC, Paid back links, Forum posts to similar niche, banners, etc. = Great traffic and more targeted traffic!
IMO, opting for paid ways contribute well to a good marketing mix especially at getting targeted traffic. Getting just mere random traffic doesn't constitutes your site's success - it's the conversion you get from your traffic. Getting traffic is just the first step, offering the right stuff to your visitors and conversion should be utmostly considered.
To sum up, SEO is great for the long run and shouldn't be left out. This is a long process and wouldn't always give you immediate results. Premium ways (PPC, paid links, banner, etc) for faster generation of targeted traffic especially if you have time constraints at achieving certain goals.

Find newsletter in your niche and purchase solo ads. If you do not have your own newsletter subscription form on your pages you will be wasting the traffic.

Hello everyone.
My experience on a new site so far:
I have done the following:
Added my site to del.icio.us, Digg.com (starting to accumulate diggs..), Stumbledupon.com
also registered with adbrite, adsense, webbizinsider.com and Thatsmysite.com ..
Webbizinsider seems to bring traffic but traffic is of poor quality..
I wish there was a way to monitor which ones of the above that are generating my traffic..
I will try to keep updating on my finds but if anyone wants to add to the list and how they made out, please do so..
Regards,
Tim.

Hey,
You should definitely be patient. Give it at least 6 months to see strong results.
Also, don't give up on submitting articles. Keep on writing them and submit them to blogs and newsletters. If you think they may be of some interest to someone in a forum, it's a good way to generate traffic to your site and help people who are seeking info on a subject.
Perseverance and hard work will get you where you want to be.
Best of Luck
