Have any of you ever advertised on craigslist.com? I have done this for some time advertising services for my various sites and get anywhere from 20-50 uniques a day. I think for starting sites this is a good way to get some starting traffic and gain some returning visitors.

No, because it's not what Craigslist was meant for. It's just something that idiot marketers turn to thinking it's a great source of customer traffic rather than trying to come up with something relevant to Craigslist users.

It's maybe ok to advertise in your local Craig's List, but only 1 post ever 7 to 14 or even 30 days, depending on how long until they expire where you live.

I had heard about it and looked at it the other day, but I didn't see a place for advertising websites. What area are you advertising in. I don't want to post in the wrong spot.

There is nowhere for "advertising" a website on craigslist.

It's supposed to be for posting classified ads NOT promoting websites.

So why do I keep hearing it's a good place to advertise. I won't, I don't want to go against anyones TOS, but there are a lot of people advising you to do this.

That, and a lot of clueless people following the clueless people and creating clueless sites on free hosts promoting some piece of crap that no one would want (oh wait...that's MLM. I forgot the euphemism. I'm so sorry.)

Lots of people also advise that you link exchange. That you buy links for SEO. That you keyword stuff. That you (insert dumb idea here). Just because lots of people say something should be done doesn't mean that you should actually go out and do it.

We tell our children "if Johnny jumped off the bridge, would you jump off the bridge?" And yet we turn around and dive headfirst off the bridge.

If craigs list and link exchange are bad, what do you use to get traffic to your site?
