the easiest free way of getting a site promoted for free is to add it to your signature on every forum your on, and be an active member (not spamming) on every forum you can get your hands on that is somewhat related to the subject matter on your site

This concept is true to get your site promoted (somewhat) on forums and maybe on the search engines. Trading links with webmasters of other sites is another "free" opportunity. The question is "what do you truly want to achieve?". Understand that I have a bias (see my login name

) but, getting results is usually what is the "big deal"!

Do you have a product or service to get people interested in? If so, making that happen can make you money. The questions then are: how much to invest? How quickly will I get it back? and What risks are involved?

Answer these questions and you can potentially start (quicker?) on your road to success. IMHO.

I would be skeptical of these so-called "free traffic" sites. Many of them will just display your site in a smaller pop-up or pop-under window. It's not worth it. There is an extremely low conversion rate associated with these types of services.

You are best off doing it the long hard way. You should never rush these things. If you have a good site, and google finds you, then your in ofr a chance.

I have promoted my website for free in several ways; some more successful than others. I belong to several forums where I am able to post requests for and reply to people looking to hire individuals for jobs. In some of the forums I advertise my website in my signature. I have submitted my website to search engine and directories. I use some word of mouth when a customer is pleased with my services they refer others to me. I do not believe in buying or earning free web traffic that never results in sales for me.

Try to sell something related to your site on eBay. Include a flyer or business card in each package you send, or include a link to your site in your listing description.

Try to infulence people to link to you by becoming an expert in your own field. By constanly adding more pages to your site with great content and letting other sites use your content as long as it remains unchanged with a link pointing back to your site will drasticly improve your link popularity. These kinds of links are much more powerful than link exchanges due to being one way.

Most search engines like Google love sites with content that keeps changing and by archiving your old content your number of pages will increase. Combine this with a targeted internal linking stratergy and every new page added is a another set of relevant links. Offering free information can will also improve your traffic and give you more entry pages where surfers will enter your site, give them the info they want and they will come back time and time again.

Jamesanderson has the right idea.

Remember why you go to other people sites. Relevent, queality content,

and lots of it. If you participate in stuff like trafficswarm, think of the way

in which you participate. You are not interested in the sites you go to.

either is anyone else. Just traffic fiends, mindlessly clicking.

the saying gets old, but never untrue; content is king.

Also, in the spirit of barter and win=win, I have a suggestion.

Because one way links are better for SE rankings than reciprical,

try offering something else in exchange for a link, like design, hosting,

your product, etc. Be creative, it's amazing what people will agree to.

Forums and directories are great resources.

You help others in a forum; others will find your website from the signature links.

Traffic exchanges are just click houses. They have a very very poor conversion ratings.

It is better to have a few interested visitors than 1000s of uninterested visitors.
