Hello,

I've recently written a white paper for our company.

Basically, the white paper examines the trends, issues, benefits, costs and implications associated with using an FAQ Manager to manage customer questions in your business.

Now that it is written, what is next?

Where are some good places to submit and promote our white paper?

Would you suggest advertising it using google adwords?

What is the best way to make people aware that this white paper exists?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Tim

The latest blog post is a good start ... I just had a read. Mind some constructive criticism?

Some things need marketing, and other things sell themselves. If you call a piece of software "link builder" or "content generator" or any number of other things, a lot of bloggers and seos will fall over themselves for it. But faq doesn't grab peoples' interest. If you picked nine of ten people at random, you would have to explain to them how a faq could be beneficial ... and half won't believe you. Google is the ultimate faq.

You have some other interesting stuff on your blog: the code highlighting could be useful. I like the Tool video, although that's only loosely related to dev or software or business. I wouldn't mind seeing more code samples... Ever notice how stores put things on the end of the isles when they think you might buy them on impulse?

I'm saying this because, as a fellow developer, I don't think anything about faq management software is going to bring many people in to your site. You might get more people by casting a wider net, and possibly upsell some of them. With as many projects as you're working on ... I think you could do better using a different one as your flagship.

This is the main reason the white paper was written, to educate and inform people about the benefits of a FAQ Management application - and how it saves them money. You are correct, this probably isnt going to make peole jump out of their seats, however it is educational and people will read it. I guess what I'm really looking for is where I can submit the whitepaper to get it in front of peoples eyes. There are all kinds of web directories, rss directories, etc. for giving more exposure to your website - where are the 'white paper directories?' What is the best way to market a free whitepaper download?

BTW.. Thanks for the comments on my blog. Its a 'work in progress.' Ha. It tough to find the time.

I'm not sure where you might submit it. Article directories would be a start, but I can't say how effective. Worth a try, though.

I tend to read white papers in two situations: when I'm evaluating a product, like whether we should move from SQL 2005 to '08, and when I need to find boringly detailed information about a specific topic, like remote query execution. Either way, I don't really care where it's hosted. I tend to find this stuff through a search engine, and usually a 'long tail' phrase; something really specific to what I want. Is the paper visible to search engines? It's behind a form, so you would have to use a site map, link to it from somewhere, or along those lines.
