With the recent changes made by Google regarding the "quality" of landing pages, many AdWords advertisers (myself included) have seen a drastic drop in traffic due to the disabling of many keywords. These keywords have had their minimum bids raised to ridiculously high levels like $5-$10. These are even for landing pages that I have that contain the keywords on the page and some even have the keywords as part of the domain.

It's still a mystery how Google really determines the "quality" of the landing page but in one fell swoop, they have really affected far too many advertisers. I want to take a poll to see what others are experiencing.

Also, I'm interested to see if anyone has had their keywords reactivated NOT by increasing the minimum bids but just by improving the "quality" of the landing page.

Thanks!

Hock

I think the change has came about due to the fact that webmasters are now using alternate means of advertising. Before everyone swore by the big G, but in the past year google has been losing revenue due to the fact that MSN and Yahoo have both turned on the steam.

Yes we know overture has been around, but for YPN to be launched it has had to have hurt googles pocket book, but could they lower the adsense revenues due to their publishers? NO, if they lowered the pauouts to publishers it would hurt their revenues even more. So now they have to make up for the lost profits somehow.

I know for a fact that many ppc marketers have jumped ship from the big G and went over to MSN, so is the reason the click price hike because the landing pages suck, or simply becuase googe is not making the profits they were before the vamp up of Yahoo and MSN?

I think its clear

I managed to bring my CPC down by adding a couple of paragraphs of text at the bottom of my landing page. To be perfectly honest, I rather object to having to do this - it adds nothing to the user experience (the text wasn't particularly relevant to the landing page, I just moved it from a sub-page that was easily accessible).

IMO Google has done a bit of a 'baby out with the bathwater' job trying to stop PPC arbitrage.

Google are undoubtedly going to be hit financially by this move, because new advertisers who don't know they need to 'optimise' their landing pages will be quoted stupidly high prices - and as a result probably pass altogether.

Did you have to reactivate those keywords by bidding the minimum suggested or you waited till they were reactivated after making the changes. And if so, how long did it take for the keywords to become active again after you made the changes to the landing page?

Anyone has an idea what keywords in the domain name give the highest payouts?
"Buy" maybe?

We were fine with the last QS update but the update that took place a few months ago hit us very hard. Most of our performing words were raised to $5 or $10 dollars from a max of .50 cents. It took us about a week but we were able to bring our campaigns back down by cleaning up our ad groups.... it was our first attempt at this and our ad groups were unorganized. By organizing our account it targeted our ads and made life a whole lot cheaper.

is BlueHat SEO. Definetly worth a read, and will probably inspire some new project that is going to take up some of your valuable time.
