Hello,

I hope I can post a more specific question like this one here. But I'm really a bit stuck on how I can promote my file upload website a bit more?

Starting up was quite easy, you get some people, they upload files, more people come and it grew. But now it just seems to be stuck at about 6000 uniques a day, sometimes 4000, sometimes 8000. But, I think it has a lot more potential, and I thought maybe some people here at EarnersForum'd have a few original ideas on how to promote a site like this.

My first instinct would be to sign up on every forum on the internet where I could find an excuse to upload a file and do so in a few threads.

Might be worth trying to approach some places and getting like a "deal" with them? Like maybe some small advertisement on forums and stuff where this sort of thing is used a lot.

6000 Uniques a day is quite good, maybe tyry some popular file using forums that would give you a banner for some cheap amounts of cash

Are you sure you're getting 6,000 uniques a day?
I'd advertise alot on forums (tech related if possible) because that's where your target audience is.

I think you're getting that many page views.. Not uniques.

I've submitted to a few directories yes, but maybe not enough; I think I'm going to submit to a lot more directories! Thanks.

@Bas & Dave: Yes, 6000 , or a bit less: Awstats for yesterday for example
Number of visits: 5655
Pages: 43747 (I think this is because the site uses some redirection)
Hits: 69118

and got over 7000 adsense views (am I allowed to post this according to adsense TOS?)

So, yes, it's around 6000 uniques a day (or let's say at least 5.000).

Yea just add it to as many Directories as you can find... or maybe the most poplular ones... and also some banner xchanges with other file upload sites or any sites you can

Considering it’s a “free” website, have you considered promoting it at no cost through traffic exchanges? They could be a superb source of repeated visitors if the service you’re offering has no costs associated with it. Also promote it extensively on forums that have competitions relating to website/graphic designs. It would be ideal to cater your services to such a market since these individuals continuously need to upload graphics that they can display on the given boards. In either case, good luck with a great website!

If I had a file uploading website, I'd start out by going to the big download communities and sponsor their "download" sections. Perhaps get some sticky threads with FAQs on how to upload/share files and have a link with your website there.
