i plan to port this forum to paid domain and web-space if it becomes even moderately popular - i just don't want to put money in an already dead project

Burf, firstly, I would recommend you to purchase your own domain name and hosting! Free hosts are not reliable, and they could stop their free hosting at any time, or worse -- take control of your website. The cost of free hosting and a domain is worth it. You will end up making everything back in the end, if you properly monetize your forum (Google Adsense, etc.).

I know in your post that you mentioned you plan to purchase paid hosting and a domain name if your website grows big, but it would be better to do that right now. Your free host may go down or load slow at times, and typing in your sub-domain is already confusing for me (mushindia.ueuo.com). Purchasing paid hosting and a domain shows your members that you actually care about the forums and are serious about it.

You should get a new design for your forum. The default one is not good. Have a custom one made, purchase one from another website, or download a free template. Develop your own logo. Advertise your website in Google Adwords, forums, and other places.

Once you're done with your forum, post back at EF so that we can review it. Good luck! :clover:

Shan is right. You won't get many members on that forum with a domain like that. Buy your own domain. They are like $7 for crying out loud. And a .net is only $2.75 at registerfly on Fridays.

phpbb.com has tons of free templates. I would download one of them and install it. It is very easy to do.

Good post, Shan.
burf, you definitely need to have your own domain and hosting so that you can be in the driver seat.
