I recently started a history forum. History is considered a boring subject by the general public. Most people couldn't care less about what happened 1000 years ago.

Does anyone have experience promoting a site or forum that is of a boring topic? How can you grab the readers attention? I am thinking by posting more controversial issues....

True that history is "boring" to many, but I can think of several topics off the top of my head that people have been arguing about for decades

I think that History forums may be the next big thing, true that some people think of them as boring, but I think that the majority of internet users find it quite interesting.

I'm the kind of person that finds history boring. However, I once went on a tour of a city, and the tour guide kept me entertained by discussing the more personal side of historical figures. I learned which famous generals slept with which politicians wives; who fathered who out of wedlock, etc. Perhaps one forum within the forum for those kinds of topics would keep people coming back. Or what about historical conspiracy theories - JFK, etc...

History, if presented properly, can be extremely entertaining. I think if you create interesting content about ancient propoganda media, how history is deeply connected in todays events, controversial history that has been changed so that people are kept in the dark, then you'll have a real winner on your hands.

It all probably comes down to how interesting the content is and history buffs will come flocking. Everything that is going on in the world today just SCREAMS HISTORY. Create content that explains how these clashes began back in the 7th century and how the decisions made in world war 2 still effect us all today. Discuss the history of the religions and how zorastrianism evolved to judaism and christianity and islam. I think it won't be boring at all . Just have some history picture threads to keep the non-reading types amused.

I think you could have a real winner

I'd look around for successful history forums (they're out there) and get some ideas from them.

Now about making some funny pictures about famous historical events. And spread them virally with link to your forum.

I remember the funny gif pictures with Zedane and his head *shot* to roll the net.
