How many of you tried press releases as a form of advertising? I tried it once with the forum in my sig. and submitted a press release using prweb's paid distribution service, but quite frankly, it would have been money well spent if I placed a banner somewhere instead, I didnt see any results from that press release.

Any other experiences or PR services that you recommend? I heard that prleap is good.

I think there are too many press releases going on at any one time. I think your money would be well spent elsewhere; unless you are a really BIG national corporation.

I used prweb for another site a year ago and got some decent backlinks. Traffic was okay. I spent about $80. Not a total waste of money for me.

I am guessing that $80 spent on link building, or some other sort of advertising would have brought better results, as Karl said, there are so many new PR's submitted each day, that it would be hard that yours gets noticed.

I used a paid PRweb promotion, and it was well worth iot for me, I got quite a few backlings, and a nice burst of traffic. I 'm prett sure I made up for the costs in adsense money.

The whole thing is you have to make the article you use for it raelly interesting with a catchy headline.

I don't think I've ever known what a press release does. What are the benefits of them?

Someone mentioned backlinks, which are always nice and helpful. I get 'em regularly. However, if you're looking for SE assistance, they'll need to be keyword optimized. Think of your landing page....<h1> tags(headline), Title tag and keywords 2-7% interspersed throughout.

Of course, the asolute best usage for Press Releases is to forge relationships with the media, of which these types of PR's need to be more targeted to specific media people.

Marc Harty has some good work on this topic, FWIW.

I have done several press releases... It does have a good hit for about a week or so.. but other than that.. It fades away.

Which paid option did you use? prweb have a number of paid options.

Some mentioned back links, 99.9% of the back links that you get from press releases are useless, you get them from long urls on new pagesthat have a PR0, and the links are not optimized, 1 PR5 link would give you more credit than all of the back links you get from a press release.

I am about to get a press release out for my upcoming website. I am getting the PR distributed through PRWEB and would be using their Edit/Polish service as well. The only thing causing the delay is that I want the PR to be highly optimized for SEO with catchy headlines and content.

I will keep you posted with the results. Waiting for CB to approve my new limits.

It could be a possibility that your news story wasn't interesting enough to be picked up by other forms of News Media. A journalist who happens to be a friend of mine was absolutely ecstatic to write a news story on what I'm doing in a couple of weeks. The PR is already finished, and I've been talking with a few PR specialists.

Some are saying you can expect a lot if you have the right story.

But after reading this thread, who knows?

I have a huge list of URLs, but according to this forum since I'm a new registered user, I have to meet the 15 post count limit. ;\
