I know there are tons of these sites out there already, but lately I've been interested in starting up one of these MySpace kind of sites with layouts, codes, images, etc.

I already know of a pretty good name - I havn't registered it though, so I don't want to post it here. But it's a .ws domain. It doesn't include "my" though, so it shouldn't be any legal problems.

Do you think it's worth it, or is it just too late to start one now and get it successfull?

As long as you offer good content on your website and have something unique that MySpace users would like, your new website will be successful.

I'd say it's worth it. I started one like the first of the month and am currently making $1 a day from it.

Thanks for your comments. I'm going to do some research to see what other sites are offering so that I can offer something more if I decide to open a site!

I think there might be some space left for new sites like that.
What is important is the content, if you can offer something no one else does you can succeed.

It's an incredibly saturated market. That said though, if you have an existing userbase of some sort and/or are offering something unique (so try not to go with the standard scripts) then the market is that big that you'll still probably get quite a good bit of traffic. Myspace is still very much alive and kicking.

Thanks Peter! I'll definitely keep that in mind

I'll make sure to have a lot of good content, and things that other sites don't have.

You dont even need unique content, get one of the available scripts - MSRS is the best - see Greg-J on digitalpoint
Im building as many as possible - get the myspace traffic while it lasts - 1 yr at most I reckon.

^Thank you for the tip. I think I'll invest in a MSRS script.

My advice is to not offer the same old turnkey crap, but to build your own unique generators, images and codes. We all know good unique content is the key in any site, take modmyprofile.com for example - its easily the greatest one out there, and given the news of Shuffler, I doubt much of these sites will stand any chance of receiving traffic.

Heres an old link i've dugg up: http://blog.eweek.com/blogs/intermed...3/20/8539.aspx

Anywho, Good luck with your endeavors!

Quality will drive traffic, resulting in $$$.

It is indeed a saturated market. But as long as you provide unique quality stuff and no turnkey stuff that the 7 year old kid down the block also has on his website, you'll do fine.

Why not focus in something that isnt saturated? you could make way more money.

It's not too late. I just made one two weeks ago and I get awesome SE traffic, I don't even spam on MySpace. It's pretty unique so people are interested. And no I don't have awesome php skills, just unique content, but no generators or any of that.

Yeah, I think you might have to reinvent the wheel. In fact, I think I'm going to start one now!

I've got a solid idea. I'll share it with you after I have a head start!

LOL thx Ya I think if your prepared to put the time in, and think of unique variations then it could still be worth doing. Im gonna start one soon, but more just for my own interest to see what this is all about, than anything else. Although mine will be predominantly australian based, australian themes etc...since they just launched a new australian myspace site.
