Hey
i always thought that you get a higher rank on topsites if visitors click your buttons (affiliate) ...
Now someone told me that it's the pageviews that count ...
Which one is right :P
And are you sure

it depends on the site, there are usually a few different options:
- clicks in
- page views on the site
- unique visitors on the site

i am 100% sure this is correct as I own a a topsites list and am a member of many top sites.

So it actually depends on the topsite itself, or do all those aspects always matter ?
Because if it depends on the unique visitors this opens alot of possibilytys to get traffic

It only depends on one of the aspects - the owner of topsites can choose this. I think ranking for pageviews is becoming more common, ranking for unique visitors is the least common I believe.

The owner of the topsite can use what ever ranking method they please. They choose in ther admin cp usually.

There methods include:

Clicks In
Clicks Out
Pageviews

The owner of the topsite can even choose to rank users according to daily, weekly, monthly, ect.

Mosy commonly, webmasters of topsites list by daily click ins. You can see an example of this at a topsite that I own, http://www.wiitopsites.com

counting pageviews can drain your server resources. From the topsite owner's perspective it's best to reward sites that bring you the most traffic (click in).

i think it all depends on the script the top is using, i remember when i have some tops in the spanish market and all works by click, the most click you send, the topp you are

I'm going to be coding my own topsites for my next site. So, can somebody clarify this?

1. a user signs up their site for the topsite
2. They get a special url to send people to the topsite
3. When they send a unique user to their url it adds a unique to the topsite.
4. The topsite list is in order of unique urls.

I'm thinking of making it like that - would you call that a topsite?

Does anyone actually use topsites? Whenever I see them I hit the back button instantly. I don't mean use them as in run one, but do you use them to find sites of interest?

What exactly is a topsite? Does someone have a link to a good example?

Wikepedia defines it as a term used by the warez community to describe FTP servers used by groups of illegal software and media piracy groups and couriers for distribution and storage. :glare:

I don't think that's what we are talking about here.

Topsites are lists of the top 10 sites in a particular niche, for example - the top 10 (or 50, 100, whatever) sites for free video games.

They are basically traffic exchanges.
