I currently own an advice forum and would like to promote it offline. What are some offline techniques I could use for an advice forum? Thank you very much.

Radio is a good one, dont know how much that costs though.

But I usually get a booklet in the mail with actually nice advertisments in it(thats all the book has in it). Maybe try somthing like that.

Also, maybe a classified ad in the newspaper titled somthing like "looking for advice?" etc.

Hm, interesting. How much is for a newspaper? I know there are different prices but I'm talking about the big ones.

I saw that your forum has niche sections. Go to the clubs oriented on this (e.g. you have "Family" - go to some family clubs and offer them more value info by visiting this section, and other candies) - the most important is for these people to make your forum packed with useful info. Then you can be sure about increasing the traffic from simple word of a mouth.

Someone told me that an advertisement on your car can be surprisingly effective. Must confess I have not tried it yet, but the price is right.

I think US Today's weekend edition runs about $65 per line? Local newspapers are not nearly as costly!

Another place I've tried in the past was classified section of Home Business Magazine...their classifieds (as of a couple years ago) were $50 plus extra if you wanted a colored box around it to help it stand out.

Posting tab flyers are far better than any of the ideas listed above.

Something I heard from someone else is you can print out pieces of paper with your site URL on it and put it in books in the library. Then when people take the book out, they get the paper and curiosity takes over.

What about the old hand bill and the letter box drop. It sure seems to attract attention. I find that advertising in the local papers more effective than than the big papers. Also out walking with hand bills it's a wonder how many people you get to talk with.

That's 1 possible visitor each time a book is taken out (most likely will then be gone too)

Yeah, putting pieces of paper or business cards in library books might get you a few visitors, but it certainly isn't a "viral" technique in which will lead to a steady or growing traffic stream over the long haul. I've heard of people putting business cards in books relating to the topic of their site at bookstores too. I just wonder if the time is worth the effort?

Trevor

How about Family Planning clinics for both family and sex matters, churches for family stuff, if there's a local college there are always bulletin boards (for love, sex, family, etc.) - laundromats and laundry rooms in or near apartments, again, especially around colleges.

You could also put a flyer up with a few words about your website something that people are will see and have your website url at the bottom (have as many that will fit on the page) so people can take it home with them. You could put these flyers up in shopping centers, notice boards in large organisations such as hospitals etc. You'd be surprised at how many people read the boards especially if they are near lifts.

Notice boards on college campuses are a great place, especially if you live in a large city where there are alot of campuses. Students are always looking for advice!

I would like to use flyers but unfortunately, I don't think I'm allowed to post flyers around town. I'm considering the newspaper idea though. Thanks for the suggestions, anymore suggestions?

I'm liking the idea of the car. If I were to do that, post a bumper sticker on the car about my forum, that's allowed...correct?

how about handing out bookmarks with your ad on it? or simply post it on a school bulletin board.
