I found this question in the thread for asking the big earners, and I would really like to hear some answers now from everybody since summers almost over.

"When writing a new site from scratch in a new niche, how do you drive traffic to it in the short term?"

EDIT: do not post any thread with the word 'myspace' in it. I am looking for *helpful* ideas that successfull webmasters use.

I had my myspace account deleted the other week for sending 300 friend requests one day, even though the limit per day is 350. Guess they're cracking down harder - before I had accidently done 900 requests one day and did not get deleted.

They probably deleted your account because of the 900. They have so much too do it probably just took a long time.

Anyway, I don't really care about MySpace advertising, anymore tips?

I just opened up at myspace and would like to know which are good areas to post, groups, classifieds blog. Cant do any of that foe 7 days so have to wait

don't mention myspace on this thread again. I mean serious, professional ways of getting lots of traffic (instead of just buying adspace of course). also, about my avatar saying genius, it's not that I am arrogrant, I just think it's kind of funny. And I have yet to find something about this specific topic in the forums

A lot of the better ways involve money:
- television and radio
- adwords and yahoo ads
- print advertising

Signature advertising, writing articles that drive traffic to your site, have a picture of a girl in a bra with the url written across certain places.

The options are endless!

Advertising and viral marketing are the ONLY ways to drive traffic short term.

If there was a free way to get traffic fast don't you think we would all be using it (and most likely keeping it fairly secret)?

But seriously, don't be so closed minded about MySpace. if you think long and hard, I bet you could find a way to make MySpace work exactly the way you want it to.

*get a autoresponder, and start your email marketing campaign, start to collect email adresses, by offering a freebie, using pop-ups.
*Getting involved in forums
* Ordering solo ads
* write and submit articles to directories and stuff like that...

1: Start your linking campaign by submitting your website to some directory sites.

2: Then start your blog and submit your blog feed to blog search engines.

3: Write articles and submit them to as many content sites as possible.

4: post in forums regularly and give good answers.

5: run solo ads, give away a branded ebook or report.

These are all free (except solo adds) but they do take time to 'kick in'. I know of no way to get tons of traffic very quickly for free.

Take your business seriously and invest in it, Build and opt-in list use paid advertisements, google adwords, etc....

I think there is now way to get a lots of traffic so fast for free..Internet business is like other businesses, you have to take it seriously and it takes time to build it up..you can't get rich over night...
