What's the advantage to making sites/pages like http://a2-network.com/sites/ or http://www.zydeca.com/ if you're not selling your services?

An extra backlink for each of your sites? Extra traffic? Ego?

Just wondering.

for one, you can cross advertise for traffic for free. If one site has some more traffic than another this can come in handy. Increase backlinks.... popularity... ego...

I can opine that perhaps its to showcase several sites or advertisers at once on one place for easy "site map" sort of thing?
I am curious too, some portals seem to have a reason to exist, and like you say, some dont have obvious reasons.

Advantages of having a network... when you create a network targeting the same demographic, you can circulate the visitors from one site to another. (Get more out of your advertising dollars)

I am about to network about three sites. Basically I am doing just for the idea of being able to show people all of the sites I run. It is mostly I guess just for fun but it does make things easier like I am going to have a main contact area for link exchanges etc. on the network page and have a dropdown box to select the site they are talking about. I guess you could gain link popularity from this. It may gain some traffic too. Mostly though just so that other webmasters or visitors can see what sites are owned by me.

its about cross promotion a network of sites Is the way to go especially if you host them on different IP addresses
