Hi everyone,

I'm new here... I built this site ridehustle com (i cant post url, forum wont let me) with my bare hands a couple of months ago... learning php and databases along the way. I'll explain a bit about the site, its basically like myspace.com but the unique twist is it is for people to show off their cars, so they can create a profile with a url e.g ridehustle.com/mgzt and people will see their car's profile. Theres other sites like it out there (cardomain, ridejudge) but in all honesty they suck. I have come to the realisation that I am a coder, not a promoter... I'm not good at promotion. I know this site could be extremely popular, but I dont know where to start. I have tried emailing other car related sites for link exchanges etc, none have ever replied. I have tried other forms of promotion (forum posts) which produce traffic spikes which soon dissipate. I just dont know what else I could do to get it out there. Any ideas at all would be appreciated! Oh yeah and I have tried myspace promotion... thats where the majority of the cars that have been added came from.

Have you tried writing articles? That would be a good place to start. You probably know a thing or two about cars if you built that site, so you could write articles related to what you site is about or just about some tips & tricks you know of.

Advertise in eZines... there are a lot of ezines related to cars so you just need to place a solo ad with these ezines.

Try these two first and see if you get any more traffic. Stick to a few methods and learn them then if you want you can move on to other methods.

wow haha i'm pissed at you... i just started coding the same exact thing about 2 weeks ago... haha, this sucks. I'll post about promoting in a while once i cool down.

Hey there,

Sounds like you've found yourself a potentially profitable little niche, so well done!

First thing I would do is write an article or two with links to your site, then start posting them to directories etc. It takes a while but will bring in residual traffic in time.
Maybe also a blog about customizing your own car or general tips about stuff like that? I'm sure there's lots of public domain info you can use for research. Use blogger to set up the blog, then go to pingomatic and get them to ping it everytime you update it. I think a niche blog like that would get decent hits.

Another idea is a viral ebook-It need only be 10 pages long, but make sure your site is mentioned and that there are lots of links back to the site in there, and then give it away as a free download at the site, promote it with any other sites you run and send it to everyone on your list if you have one. Another good way to promote a viral ebook would be to give it to the webmasters of the other sites you mentioned and let them give it away too.

There are quite a few ways to promote niche stuff, download the free ebook in my sig for some good pointers.
