My forum called Simply Freelance is a rather new forum online for 1 or 2 weeks. At this point I've advertised at each community I'm apart of, exchanged links with 2 known websites, and have paid for advertising at another persons website.

The traffic is alright, about 600 unique visitors so far, but there's barely any activity on the forum itself, 14 registered members.

I would like to know if there are any better methods or suggestions that I could use to get the forum as active and known as I would like.

I think it's going to be difficult as there are already well established forums in the freelance sector.

You may have been better off going for a less competitive niche.

However, you could try.

1. Competition, i.e. 1st person to 100 quality posts wins a prize
2. PPC campaign to drive traffic.
3. Link bait, create a unique post and try to get it linked to from del.ico.us or digg.

I do like the design, it's nice and clean.

What would be another good, but less competitive niche? I have troubles thinking at times.

I can't find your RSS link. If you don't have it, I think you should have one. My RSS link is by far my most popular link, more popular than even my index page.

If you used FireFox, you could notice the RSS icon at the bottom right corner of this forum. I don't use vBulletin, but I assume it has a built-in RSS features (or maybe a mod?). You should apply it to your forum too.

I've sold Simply Freelance over at TalkFreelance, but will be setting up a new community for web development within the next few weeks.

I'll do taking all suggestions/methods into consideration and putting alot of them to action.
