My newest website, one that pays users to try free products/software/surveys, is all done and ready to go. I've got a 20% referral commission set up, and with this I know the site will grow as viral marketing is the best thing a site can have.

My problem is getting those first initial members to get things started. Here are a few things I've got in mind.

-Post on work at home forums with link in sig.
-I've got a myspace account growing at about ~300 friend/day
-Possibly post on craigslist in the jobs section; "Product testers wanted!"
-Adwords (once I read up a lot more on optimization)

Myspace promotion might be a good one. Other than that I am not sure. I never had to promote that kind of site. Maybe doing traffic exchanges on sites like http://stormofcash.com that have the same target audience as you?

I think you are on the right try i would try the means you have listed then go from there.

I would buy some Adwords as its a quick way of instantly starting people with your business. Also some referal scheme would be a good incentive to grow your site.
